VOLTA 13 | Booth 24

June 12th – 17th, 2017

The Hole is proud to present a special solo booth by emerging artist Drake Carr. Hailing from Flint, Michigan and newly arrived in New York City, Carr garnered attention for his amazing series of “dancers” he painted for a tiny bar in Brooklyn. With only a few exhibitions under his belt this 24-year-old presents eight dancer paintings for his first time showing at an art fair and his first showing in Europe.

These paintings on canvas use airbrush and selective mixed media to create larger-than-life figures on the dance floor. Each has really out-there style, drawn from real people in the artist’s circle. The anthropological element relates to the sculptures of John Ahearn or the photographs of Clayton Patterson, whereas these works document 2017, document an amazing party that you missed, or one coming up that you need to get into!

Drake Carr was born in 1993 in Flint, Michigan and has shown in group exhibitions at The Hole and Velvet Ropes in New York and a recent solo show entitled Public Fun at 0-0 LA in Los Angeles.
